Most people would rather do ANYTHING than have to do that.
However, if you are interested in seeing how Congress views long-term care insurance and long-term care planning the October 26th House Committee meeting on the CLASS plan is worth viewing. The hearing includes a general agreement that long-term care financing is a huge issue, but little other agreement.
After viewing it, I think most people would conclude that there is a necessity to have both private LTC programs and government programs to help with LTC needs. However, it is very difficult in this partisan environment to find representatives who talk about creating an integrated public - private partnership that might give credit to the other side. The gulf is huge - and that is a shame.
